Management Lessons from MOTHERHOOD
Multitasking is her Middle name!!
Planning is her arm!!
Responsibilities are her shoulders!!
Execution is her skill!!
Leadership is Inborn!
YES… MOTHERHOOD!!! Ladies & Gentlemen, the greatest manager I’ve ever seen is my mother. Efforts to seek management lessons from the outer world are futile when compared to how our mothers handle the activity of home making. Here goes… A few of the innumerable management qualities…
SHE HEARD THE UNHEARD!!!
True quality of an effective leader. Good management doesn’t take action only based on the inputs that the MIS provides, but the intuitive aura that is created around the organization. A mother does not need evidences to act upon. Similarly a good manager too should not depend on evidences… He should act even without being heard…!!
ACCEPTANCE OF RESPONSIBILITIES!!!
A sense of belonging is engraved in her soul. Every activity, good or bad, happy or sad, she accepts responsibilities gracefully. A good manager should also accept responsibilities. There must be a sense of belonging to the organization to produce effective results.
INSTINCTIVE ACTION!!!
Just as the instinctive action that results in the crying out of the word “Amma!!” at times of pain, the resultant act of a mother is also instinctive. It is spontaneous but mindful of consequences. As we all know.. its always the best. The acts of good managers should also be spontaneous, but he should bear in mind the consequences.
DECISION MAKING!!!
She thinks twice… Once to assess the action… Second, to assess the consequential effect on others. She never thinks about herself. Similarly, a good manager should assess the decision and also assess the outcome of the decision to the organization as a whole, without considering personal consequences.
LEADERSHIP!!!
Defined by character and role that she plays. Motherhood by itself commands respect. No child requires special knowledge to understand why a mother has to be respected. Qualities of a good manager should be such that the organization respects him as a leader undoubtedly.
OFFER HOPE!!!
A mothers abiding optimism has a profound impact on recovery. At any given situation a mother offers hope to ensure success. A good manager should also offer brighter prospects to create an effective work environment.
To sum up…
“A full time job of motherhood is highly remunerative with an account payee cheque of love… If we understand her job, we can encash it to become successful managers…!!!”
And thus I stand amidst you, as a leader, as a manager, to make this bitter world a better world…
